Design of the Vancouver Convention Center, to be completed in 2008, called for areas of textured carpet where a number of colors were possible. LMN Architects, design architect on the project, asked Lees for help in exploring options.

Using Tryk, Lees produced fifty-four 24" square carpet tile simulations in a matter of days. The design team used the Tryks to narrow choices before ordering physical samples.

"As part of the design process, we need to see a hard sample in order to make a final decision," said Lori Naig, head designer on the project for LMN. "But for this project we were using a color palette of neutrals, and simulated prints were a quick way for us to do a value study as well as see our pattern en masse. We set up tile configurations in three different values, laid them out in a conference room with lighting similar to that of the project space, and were able to get through those first rounds of choices in a much shorter time than we would have otherwise."

Call it vision, a knack for trend forecasting, or the ability to shape an industry. By whatever name, Lees Carpets has a unique talent for developing carpets that interior designers want. Since 1997, Tricycle has been helping Lees dream up and deliver better products to market in faster, less wasteful ways.

After experiencing Tryk's ability to reduce wait time and open up creative options in product development, Lees wanted to bring these same advantages to architects and interior designers. So they commissioned Tricycle to build web-based tools to do just that.

More than just run of the mill information-heavy websites, Lees' Thought Patterns and Design Studio provide kinetic, fun, interactive experiences that eliminate long wait times and the frustration of waiting on strike-offs that may or may not look like what the designer envisioned.

By using Tryk to create sample folders, Lees also gives designers a library-housed tool for scanning every pattern in the collections, at a glance.
