In keeping with its promise to offer exclusively green products, Nood wanted to launch its Fall 2007 Urban Optimist collection using a dematerialized product development process.

Urban Optimist 07 includes four ensembles of three patterns each, in a variety of scales (repeats range from 24 inches square to 12x16 feet). Consistent proportions and a common theme of the points of intersection between Mother Nature and human hands lend to a "visual mash up," making it easy for designers to delineate and create space by mixing patterns in large areas.

The collection was designed by Kristen Bragdon using Tryk, in order to explore design options and creative inspiration without creating unnecessary design waste. Tryk was used to visualize the carpets as well for prototypes and test product runs. A typical carpet sample represents more than 700 yards of carpet tufted during product develpment.

Urban Optimist 07, conversely, was developed entirely using Tryk. So when an interior designer requests a sample of an Urban Optimist carpet in their color, it is the first piece of that pattern and color carpet ever to have been tufted.

Nood has carved a niche in the interiors industry as a carpet company that only makes environmentally aggressive products. But high recycled content, including performance backing made with soybean oils and recovered coal ash, are only part of Nood's picture.

They also use Tryk to dematerialize the development and sampling of their carpets.  When a typical carpet sample arrives at a designer's office, it is the product of more than 700 yards of prototypes and test product runs, translating to more than 3,800 lbs of yarn. But Nood uses Tryk to develop its piece dye products, so the square of carpet sent to a designer as a sample—an important part of the design process—is the first piece of that pattern and color that has ever been manufactured.

At Nood's request we also created a place where designers can take Nood patterns and make them their own. Designers can choose from traditional or trendy collections, recolor and view their favorites in room vignettes... all with drag n drop ease.
