Cambridge, Massachusetts based Gund Partnership is a leading architecture firm that is committed to collaborative processes that create memorable architecture, that engages, reflects and sustains the world.

When working on the recent South Franklin Circle project, the design team of Miika Ebbrell and Eric Svahn, AIA at Gund (both of whom are LEED AP) and Marcy Stefura of Lucas Stefura Interiors wanted to be true to their increased focus on sustainable design. So they used Blink by Tandus to sample with less waste.

"Obviously, part of what drew us to Blink was the green factor of not getting samples that we do not need," said Svahn. "Our design process tends to call for a lot of samples and we do not need them piling up over time, in our library. We're simply running out of space. In fact, we're getting to a point that when sales reps bring in sample books, we ask them not to leave them behind. We take a single brochure, make notes on it, and then we know whom to call."

"By using Blink, we were able to order a batch of colors, choose two to explore, then order another batch, without waiting for a long time. When we selected the final carpet for the space and presented it to our client, we also were able to show them all of the simulations, to explain how we had arrived at our selection."

Tandus, the umbrella brand that unites Monterey, C&A and Crossley, is building upon the success of its blink program - which uses Tryk online and as print samples to cut sampling waste in custom projects.

An incredibly robust sample design program, blink allows designers to make product decisions all of the way down to the floor, customizing running line styles and customs, or starting from scratch using a grayscale pattern, to explore multiple color libraries and yarn constructions.
